Photographic Bliss

During the years working with Josh we have both had our share of experiences that we will never forget. Within those periods of creative growth Josh and I have many great memories and we thought it would be cool to share some of them with you. Here is one I remember very well right around the time we were finishing Further and Through.
Well we had the music all recorded and all we needed was the photographs. Further and Through actually became the first album because I re-recorded the Jason.L album and it worked out great. It was just one of those things that was a good thing. Sometimes redoing something can be very beneficial in the long run.

Josh has taken a lot of pictures of me over the years. And one of my all time favorites is the mud photo on the inside cover from Further and Through.
We got up really early in the morning on Saturday and we were excited!
Josh brought his brothers camera which was supposed to be real high tech and he was excited to use it. I remember having a conversation with Josh before the photo shoot and it went something like this...
|
“Jay, guess what?” “What?” I said. “I borrowed my brothers camera!” “Cool!” I said excitedly. “So it’s a pretty good camera huh?” “Jay, this camera is unreal!” Josh went on about it and I got more excited myself.
So here came Saturday and it was raining which is what we had hoped in order for us to get the mud effect we were looking for. Unfortunately Josh’s brother’s camera wasn’t working out as he had planned. So we had a setback… Now I could have flipped out, which I admit I’ve done in the past. But I kept my cool.

When you have a great friend like Josh at your side, you don’t need to worry about anything. I mean there could be this big mutated blueberry, which is trying to eat everybody, and this one blueberry just happened to try and eat me well we were trying to do photographs, and I still wouldn’t worry cause Josh would think of some way to get rid of the blueberry so we could continue our session.
Well maybe I would worry a little bit, but not about Josh. Anyway… we’re both standing there trying to figure out what to do next and finally Josh spoke. And I remember this.
“I’m just curious. I’m gonna try my camera.” Usually when Josh says I’m just curious, that means something amazing is going to happen. He took a test photo with his camera this time. Then after he took the photograph he had a shocked look on his face, like someone who just found out they just won a years supply of captain crunch cereal. So then he said “Jay you aren’t going to fucking believe this!” “What?” I said wondering.
And then josh showed me the picture he just took with his camera and compared it to his brother’s. And Josh’s camera actually worked out better and it wasn’t even as high tech as his brother’s but it still did the trick. Needless to say we ended up with what I feel was one of the best photos we’ve ever taken.
It goes to show you that new isn’t always good and that old isn’t always tired. Hey if it works go with it, and we did. And that day is one of the best days I ever had working with Josh and a day we both will never forget…
On that day we captured a special moment forever, which time can never fade.
