Ink of closure
Many people now a days have tattoos, some more than others. Usually there is a reason behind what has been considered a crazy thought in the past. Some have an idea on what they want and some don’t. A lot of people get a tattoo just for the sake of getting a tattoo. Others have a purpose in mind and for me those are the best kinds of tattoos to get.
It’s amazing to hear some of the stories behind the tattoos that people have due to something important or sacred, like the names of their children or a parent that they were very close to before they passed. A tattoo is forever and that is very important to remember anytime someone is thinking about getting one.
It’s not good to regret any tattoos you get, like the name of an ex-lover or some dumb question being asked like “Where’s my brain?” You’d never hear the end of that one. My first tattoo was the stick logo, very fitting if you ask me.
I also have “Carpe diem” branded on my skin which happens to be one of the greatest sayings ever! Another fitting choice! Tattoos can also be a good reminder. On 8-29-08 I had to take care of something that I had put off for years. On that night I finally dealt with it. “8-29-08” became my closure tattoo and it is one of the most important tats that I had done.
Some people might think it’s extreme but I feel that it was necessary in order for me to move onto the path that I am on now. When people ask me what “8-29-08” means I have no reason to avoid the question. Even if I give them the short version at least I am saying something, which is better than saying nothing and bottling all of that agony that I had inside me for so many years.
All of my tattoos have meaning and a story to go with them. I can honestly say that I have no regrets about any of the ink that I have on my skin especially “8-29-08”. I had to do it and I’m glad I did.
Anytime honesty is on your skin you shouldn’t just wear it, you should own it because the truth will always bleed.
